THE WAY

Andy is a worker ant.  Being a worker, his duties are to search and carry food back to the Queen from dawn to dusk; 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year.  His father and his grandfather did that; so are his cousins, friends, and sons.  This is THE WAY.  No one questions about THE WAY.  It is considered as the universal truth for all worker ants to follow:  THE WAY.

Andy was happy about THE WAY just like any other worker ants until one day, he noticed that there were more number of ants went out to work while fewer and fewer ants came home at dusk.

Andy stops another fellow worker ant and said,

"Something is wrong.  Didn't you notice that there were more ants went out from the nest than returning?"

"No.  You must be dreaming.  Everything is well and sound.  Besides, one of our friends has found a big pool of honey.  It is a gold for us as ants.  If we carry honey home, our Queen will be very, very happy.", said Andy's friend and walks off to find the honey.

After few days, he found that those ants who carried honey all collapsed on the way home; then there is a funnel descended from heaven and sucks them off and sending them to death.

Andy stops another ant who happens to be a soldier ant.

" Please stop other ants from rushing to carry honey home; for I see the DEATH with my own eyes.  I saw a funnel coming down from heaven and sucking them to DEATH."

" You must be very, very crazy and disgusting.", said the soldier ant. 

" It is your duty according to THE WAY as a worker ant to carry the honey back to the Queen.  If you disrespect your duty, death will be upon you."  

Here it goes.  Andy saw the danger; yet no other ants saw it.  Andy cannot stop THE WAY, even THE WAY leads them to death.
